Achieving MDGs is a national goal, Dr Khatiwada
National Planning Commission (NPC) Vice Chairman Dr Yubaraj Khatiwada has on Sunday said that the 2010 draft report of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) progress should be treated as a national document with shared ownership rather than only a government document.
He made the remark to this effect while speaking at a one day National stakeholder consultation meeting held in the capital to discuss on the said draft report.
He also urged all the participants of the meet to give their honest and critical views regarding the draft so that the final report will reflect broader issues and other ground realities related to MDGs.
The meeting was organized with an intention of soliciting inputs, suggestions, and feedback on the initial draft. It was attended by members of civil society, private sector, relevant federations and associations, academicians and experts apart from different government and non-government agencies.
Every five years, NPC brings out a report to monitor the country’s progress towards the MDGs. The final MDGs progress report 2010 will be released soon.

Freedom and equality: when are they mutually exclusive?
by Sarita Sapkota | 02 September, 2010
In the article 'Seven Principles of Sound Public Policy', Lawrence W. Reed stated his first principle as "Free people are not equal, and equal people are not free". Not referring to equality as the equality before law and purely taking it in a sense of material wealth, many people I know find the statement agreeable but somehow they don't like the sound of it and in a political setting like ours, its only predictable.

Unleashing Nepal
If one observes the contemporary political economic scenario of Nepal, especially the last 2 decades covering the eventful period of Jana Aandolan I , civil war, royal coup, Jana Aandolan II, comprehensive peace agreement and constitution assembly, they could confidently say Nepalese are fond of hoping for the best and dashing for it and are very familiar with having their hopes thwarted and coping with the worst.
