Dr. Chalise talks about privatization in Nepal

In the fourth episode of his lecture series entitled "Privatization in Nepal", Dr. Bhola Chalise shared his experiences and analysis of the privatization  process of Nepal. He countered the rumours regarding privatization on the basis of his first hand experience of his involvement in the process.He shedded lights on the reasons that compelled the government to private the public enterprises and the benefits derived after the process. He pointed out that though the process has been able to deliver benefits partially , the future of privatization seems bleak because of the fact that the existence of public enterprises have served as a platform for corruption and nepotism for political leaders.

Next episode of the lecture series will be held on 9th July 2010 from 5 pm onwards.

• Freedom and equality: when are they mutually exclusive?

  In the article 'Seven Principles of Sound Public Policy', Lawrence W. Reed stated his first principle as "Free people are not equal, and equal people are not free". Not referring to equality as the equality before law and purely taking it in a sense of material wealth, many people I know find the statement agreeable but somehow they don't like the sound of it and in a political setting like ours, its only predictable.
