On August 19, 2014 a meet on ‘The Role of Institution in Promoting Growth, Rural Development and Reducing Poverty’ was held by Samriddhi at Hotel Everest, Kathmandu. The event was moderated by Mr. Prateek Pradhan and the Speaker was Mr. Stefan Dercon, Chief Economist, DFID. More than 30 people attended the session.
Mr. Dercon is known also for being a Micro-Development economist who has been a Professor of Economics at a number of prestigious institutions including Oxford University. His research has focused on a number of prime areas, inclusive but not limited to: risk and poverty, agriculture and rural institutions and social and geographic mobility. His notable published works include (2004) Insurance against Poverty, 2004, Oxford University Press and (2002) The Impact of Economic Reforms on Rural Households in Ethiopia, Washington D.C., World Bank.
