Talks on feasible energy sources

Samiddhi, The Prosperity Foundation organized an econ-ity session on the topic ‘Energy Mix to Power Nepal’ jointly with FNCCI on the 27th of January, 2014 at Hotel Himalaya, Lalitpur. The event was moderated by Mr. Anil Chitrakar.

The panel featured prominent figures in the energy sector of Nepal, namely,
i. Mr. Kushal Gurung, Windpower
ii. Mr. Kishor Rimal, Gham Power
iii. Dr. Subarna Das Shrestha, Independent Power Producers Association of Nepal (IPPAN)
iv. Dr. Govind Raj Pokharel, Alternative Energy promotion Centre (APEC)

The event featured discussion on contribution of solar and wind energy in total energy generation and how this could help in energy security and reduce dependency in hydro power. Amidst growing demand for energy in Nepal, panelists highlighted the urgency of development of alternative power sources. Decentralized production of power that can be modeled as an incentive by the concept of net metering was also brought to discussion. The interactive audience then further talked about costs, governance, larger vision of the energy sector and other issues pertinent to the topic. Over 30 people attended the session. The event was also covered by a number of media houses.
