Constitution and Economic Aspirations in Pokhara

The Foundation held different consultation meetings in Biratnagar, Birgunj, Pokhara, Nepalgunj and Kathmandu throughout the month of March. These meetings were organized to learn about the economic aspirations of Nepalese living in different parts of the country and to identify policy priorities based on those aspirations. CA members, local level political and business leaders, journalists and lawyers showed up with active participation.

On 14th March, 2014, 27 participants including entrepreneurs, lawyers, members of civil society, and representatives from non- governmental organizations, political leaders, business leaders and legal experts attended the regional consultations in Pokhara.

Participants from Pokhara envisioned economic prosperity as a state whereby open economic policies facilitated a production driven economy and the state took care of social welfare functions. They pinpointed physical infrastructure and security of life and property as basic foundations of economic prosperity. Participants assigned the provisioning of social security and creating a conducive business environment as roles that the state should fulfill.

In the end, two speakers of the event, Constituent Assembly member Hon. Rabindra Adhikari (elected from Pokhara) and business leader, Mr. Niranjan Shrestha were asked to share their opinions before the moderator wrapped up the session.
