Samriddhi, The Prosperity Foundation hosted a Nepal Leaders’ Circle meet on the topic “Trade Policies for Developing Economies” on the 24th of February, 2014 at Soaltee Crowne Plaza, Soalteemode, Kathmandu. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Robin Sitoula. Altogether, more than 30 people including young parliamentarians, bankers and businessmen attended the session. Sir Thomas Harris was the Chief Guest in the event.

The event featured discussion on Nepal’s contribution to international trade and cross-border capital flows. Major challenges confronting Nepal’s economic growth were identified and the way-forward for Nepal was discussed. The attendees discussed about the need for economic policy reforms, open markets and implementation of property rights, rule of law, government accountability and transparency and flexibility in labor laws. The chief guest highlighted the fact that Nepal is strategically a market-locked economy and with the right kind of policies in place, Nepal can entice serious foreign investors and boost its economy by selling services like tourism, medical and legal services.
