Building Together: How the Private Sector Sees Nepal’s Next Chapter?

Nepal’s private sector finds itself at a critical juncture following the Gen Z movement, which exposed deep public dissatisfaction with governance, corruption, and economic management. While the protests reflected accumulated frustration over weak institutions, unemployment, and policy inconsistencies, they also led to targeted attacks on business leaders and establishments, raising concerns about confidence, stability, and the future of enterprise in the country. The episode underscores both the fragility and resilience of Nepal’s economic ecosystem.

Mr. Anjan Shrestha reflects on the structural constraints facing Nepal’s economy, including policy uncertainty, discretionary bureaucracy, and declining institutional trust. He argues that private sector development is hindered by unpredictable regulation and a tendency to view profit-making with suspicion, while emphasizing the need for clearer laws, stronger institutions, and a more constructive state–business relationship to support job creation and sustained economic growth.

The text is an abridged and translated version of the November 2025 edition of Sambaad @ Samriddhi.
