Nepal Economic Growth Agenda (Report, 2012)

Nepal Economic Growth Agenda (Report, 2012) identifies and discusses policy constraints in five growth sectors of Nepal viz. Agriculture, Education, Hydropower, Transport, Infrastructure, and Tourism and makes recommendations to address the constraints. The five sectors of NEGA, 2012 are discussed from the perspective of economic growth and recommendations are based on how the sector can grow and consequently play a greater role in the economic growth of Nepal. Overall the report outlines key hurdles impeding growth and provides recommendations to remove those hurdles while introducing new ideas to build on the potential in these sectors.

“Though the issues and challenges identified in all the five sectors of NEGA, 2012 are diverse and unique, some of the major challenges remained common. These were identified as lack of business friendly environment with issues such as frequent bandhs (strikes), issues of labor and political interference. Similarly, financial constraints and financial risk sharing remained common in sectors like Hydro power and Infrastructure which requires long term investment and relatively longer gestation periods.”- An excerpt
