Substandard transportation service is what commuters in Kathmandu valley have to face in a daily basis. Samriddhi’s Anurag Pant, took to the issue in an article published in the national daily, The Himalayan Times. Pointing out lack of ‘true’ competition in the sector as one of the main factors contributing to the case in point, the article focuses on limited services and diminished choices in the transportation sector resulted by fact that supply is currently determined by regulations than my market demand. The article suggests that the regulations (rather than focusing on giving road permits and determining the supply of the service) should focus on effectively monitoring minimum safety standards for the commuters. Again, the article further argues that dismal road safety condition persists due to the lack of competition.
